I attended the MMEA (Maryland Music Educator's Association) conference. The first session was a waste of time. I can't even believe they allowed the man to present. The second session was about using "Music of the Sea" from various cultures. The third session was about using hula dancing and ukuleles in the classroom. The last session was about digital portfolios. I found this session to be intriguing in the fact that the presenter keeps accurate records of his students' performance via video portfolios. However he did NOT solve the problem of the huge time factor this takes to off-load and categorize the videos. I'm hopeful there will be some sort of technology soon that will make it easier to do this type of process.
Reading this book by Martin Fautley. So far its a little dry and has only confirmed things I already know about this topic. I'm hopeful that it will soon provide me some new information I might be able to use in my classroom.
So excited to attend my first ever MMEA conference this Friday! I'm looking forward to hopefully learning lots of useful information and feeling refreshed and rejuvenated with new and exciting ideas to bring back to my classroom.
Finally decided to swallow the $112 and join NAfME this week. I'm excited about the resources it has to offer, although I'm highly frustrated with their system. I did not receive a confirmation email and therefore I don't have my NAfME number to be able to login to the members only section. Of course there is no password retrieval system and you can only call them during business hours. Update your system NAfME!
